Another XPath tool to help out with your automated testing

Original Blog Posting on [blog.eviltester.com]

I use XPather to help me write my automated tests, and other people seem to like XPath Checker. But today I needed something a little harder hitting and something which didn’t sit in the browser to help me write some batch processing xml tests. I found SketchPath, a fantastic free .net written tool.

SketchPath has a tree view of the xml document which shows the matches, hints on XPath functions, and a good trace facility. I don’t think I’ve written better XPath statements, so I will certainly use SketchPath again.

And although I have only just started using SketchPath, the developer has created a shiny new replacement in the form of CoherentWeb – a faster and more comprehensive tool, currently free and in Beta.

I seem to look out for new XML tools every 6 months. So if you know of any good free XML tools then I’d love to see your recommendations in the comments.
